One of the biggest names in fashion, Naeem Khan is known for attiring eminently elegant women in his refined creations. Stars and socialites alike are devoted to his designs, among them Beyoncé, Pénelope Cruz, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Obama, and Queen Noor of Jordan.
Born in India, Khan grew up surrounded by the beauty of its culture, architecture, history, and design. A love for fashion was instilled and nurtured by Khan’s father and grandfather, who were well known in India for designing intricately embroidered clothing worn by the royal families. Hoping to pursue his studies in design, Khan moved to New York to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
When his plans to attend FIT didn’t work out, fate stepped in. Naeem accompanied his father to a meeting with legendary designer Halston about exporting embroidery, and the two immediately had a connection, resulting in Halston asking the younger Khan to apprentice for him. Working with the veteran designer, Khan learned about draping and cutting fabric to create a timeless silhouette. There he was able to develop his own aesthetic, a balance between the clean restraint of Halston and the opulence of his father.
Khan launched his own label in 2003 and began selling at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue, and is currently carried at more than 100 specialty stores around the world. In 2008, Naeem Khan was inducted as a member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Naeem Khan’s most recent regal collection, comprised of impeccably cut dresses, sophisticated gowns and chic separates, is all embroidered by hand. Eighteen bridal gowns adorned with intricate beading and lace appliqué floated along the runway, each one more mesmerizing than the next. Every exquisite design was named after a captivating city or one of its treasured landmarks, meant not specifically for destination weddings, but as stunning statements standing all on their own.
