In 1947, Achille Maramotti took a detour from the career for which his law degree from the University of Parma had prepared him. Instead of becoming a lawyer, he decided to follow his great-grandmother Marina Rinaldi’s passion and design couture clothing.
Maramotti established the brand Max Mara in 1951 and was amongst the first to manufacture high-quality women’s clothing—at a time when fashion was still strictly handcrafted. Max Mara grew to become one of the largest fashion houses in the world— the Max Mara Group, which is comprised of nineteen different lines, is the biggest clothing company in Italy.
The trademark coats designed by creative director Ian Griths back in the 90s make a comeback with Max Mara’s latest oering, Pre-Fall 2016. The brand has paired the look of those lux, double-faced cashmere coats from decades ago with fishnet tees and studded leather accessories, for a modern take that will appeal to women of all ages and style sensibilities.
