Nothing adds elegance to a look like a fabulous updo. It can take even the simplest little black dress to another level. Do you have a special event coming up, but don’t have time for a visit to your stylist? DIY is easier than you think! Follow these simple steps from master hair stylist Arsineh Ghazarian from Avenue Beauty in Los Angeles. (Images by Duke Photography)

SET THE HAIR: Using a one-inch Ceramic Tourmaline Ionic curling iron by Mega Hot Ceramics and a setting spray by Kenra.  Secure with small silver pin curl pins.  After cooling for 30 minutes, open pins. Make a deep side part.

CLIP THE FRINGE: Take the deep part of the fringe and clip it on the scalp to create a nice deep wave using large silver pin curl pins. Let that set while you work on the back.

PART THE HAIR in half and make a little ponytail, then set the ponytail into a bun.

SECTION BY SECTION: Start pulling hair back from the top section. Spray each individual piece lightly with Kenra #13 medium hairspray. As you go, place hair piece by piece on top of the bun to create a larger bun with more wave and texture. Repeat step until you get to the fringe area.

STYLE THE FRINGE: Open the fringe clips and pin the waves loosely behind the ear to create a vintage style that looks like a finger wave.  Use large bobby pins to secure ends of hair onto the bun.

SMOOTH OUT THE HAIR by spraying Taffy #13 by Kenra on your fingertips and running over hair.

Place the fringe as desired to achieve your finished look. Use a finishing spray #25 for hold.

Once it’s secure, spray #13 again for high shine and a glossy final look.
