In her previous career, Erin Shriver created and sold hand-made soaps and lotions. Today she is the owner of Effie Coe Designs, and now spends her days producing artisan textile designs and luxury island-life home decor. We asked for her favorite dry-skin remedy to share with FEMME ROUGE readers.

Waterless Whipped Body Butter

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa butter
  • 1/2 cup almond oil (may substitute another light oil, such as jojoba or grape seed)
  • 3/4 cup coconut oil
  • Essential oil of your choice (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a glass measuring cup. Melt in the microwave in short, 30-second bursts, taking it out to stir as it becomes liquid. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler, if you prefer. CAUTION: The oils will get very hot!

Once melted, place the glass container in the refrigerator to cool until it begins to harden slightly and becomes somewhat opaque.

Remove from refrigerator, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil (or leave it fragrance free if you have sensitive skin), and whip until fluffy using an electric mixer. This can take 10-15 minutes depending on the temperature when you started. The cooler it is, the less time it will take.

When the butter is thick and fluffy, place it back into the refrigerator to set for about 10 minutes.

Remove and store in an airtight container. The butter should keep for several months.
