Every two weeks or so, treat your tresses to one of these incredibly simple do-it-yourself hair masks to increase shine and softness. If you struggle to get all the oil or mask out of your hair, try this trick: whisk an organic egg and work it into damp hair to let its egg-cellent combo of proteins and lecithin clear out any leftover oils. Rinse with lukewarm water.
- 4 tablespoons raw honey
- 6 tablespoons organic extra virgin olive oil
Mix together, massage into your hair, cover with plastic wrap, and leave in for 30 minutes to two hours. Wash it all out using your normal shampoo/conditioner routine.
- 1 avocado, cubed
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 cup organic castor oil
Mix all ingredients in a food processor until smooth and apply to damp hair. Leave the mixture on for at least 30 minutes. Wash hair as usual.
Well, not exactly. For this one, you want good old-fashioned organic mayonnaise (or skip the preservatives and make your own with the recipe at femme-rouge.com). Add several drops of lavender essential oil, just to keep from smelling like a sandwich. Massage it in and let sit for at least 30 minutes. Wash hair as usual.
Melt 4 tablespoons raw organic coconut oil in the microwave. When the oil has cooled to a comfortable temperature, massage it into your hair, and pull your hair up into a bun. Leave it in for at least one hour. Wash hair as usual.
