Step aside, spiced cider … we’re edging out the eggnog, too! It’s time to make a change from those predictable holiday beverages and take it up a notch. Tart, sweet, and spicy, these winter infusions warm us from the inside, giving the body a healthy boost with each sip.

4 cups water

1 1/2 cups cranberries

1-inch piece ginger

2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

1-2 tablespoons raw honey

Boil water and add cranberries and ginger. Simmer, uncovered, for 8 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and honey to taste. Serve with a few cranberries and a slice of ginger in each teacup.

2-3 tablespoons loose black tea

4 star anise

1 3-inch cinnamon stick

1-2 tablespoons raw honey

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice

Boil water, remove from heat, and add tea leaves, anise, and cinnamon stick. Cover and steep for 4 minutes. Strain tea through a sieve to remove leaves and spices. Stir in honey and lemon juice. Serve tea with a floating star anise and cinnamon stick in each cup.
